#FIFAWWC Group stages R2
Before I even start, can South Africa learn some game management please? Losing a 2 goal lead, in the last 20 minutes, in a period of 5 minutes is not how you move into the next round.
Anyway, shout out to the round of underdogs; Philippines beat New Zealand, Nigeria beat Australia(Asisat is a legend), Morocco beat Korea Republic, Colombia beat Germany.
USA vs Netherlands was quite the watch, it was always going to be a tough one. A repeat of the 2019 final, Netherlands even without Miedema played really well and I wasn't surprised when they scored first. However, the USA is the USA and they managed to score to draw the game. This USA squad doesn't look as strong as the 2019 squad and although it's still a strong team, they’re looking beatable as we progress. Hmm.
Another injury hit the English camp. At this point, I’ll be surprised if they make the semi finals; Keira Walsh is the main defensive midfielder. Sarina might have to go back to the drawing board and change the whole strategy. Get well soon Keira!
Brazil has still not beaten France at the World cup, Wendie Renard said it's not going to happen on her watch.
Honestly, don’t give Sweden any corners unless you want to concede a goal. Amanda Ilestedt sees every corner as a chance for her to score and it's getting pretty scary at this point.
It was a round of firsts too:
- Philippines had their first ever World cup win
- Jamaica had their first ever World cup win
- Morocco had their first ever World cup win
- Portugal had their first ever World cup win(I know, you’re surprised as well)
- Asisat Oshoala became the first African woman to score at three World cups
The final round of games are going to be very decisive as a few groups are still open for who qualifies to the next round and/or who finishes top.
I’ll leave you with this dirty goal from Linda Caicedo where she took the German defense to school. See you at the end of R3.
